Tone It Up Bikini Series 2016: Week 4 update (and what happened when I went off the nutrition plan this past weekend)

Week 4 RecapHappy almost Friday, friends! Sorry for the lack of blog posts and engagement lately — I’ve been trying to pack in more freelance articles (two more for AskMen.com!) during the week to keep my weekends free and clear for fun activities… like camping!

I doubled-down on my Tone It Up Bikini Series workouts this past week and took some measurements at the three week mark to see how I was doing. I definitely felt better and less bloated, but it was great to see a wee half-inch drop all around (except for the booty!) and the 4 lbs I gained livin’ it up at Disneyland and Vegas in February absent from the scale. To celebrate, I #ateallthethings when I went camping this past weekend and paid the price.Β  (more…)

{thinking out loud Thursday} A part-time omnivore’s dilemma

Happy almost Friday, friends! I’ve had a crazy busy week and could not be more excited for the weekend. Yesterday (and almost every other day this week) I worked from about 5 a.m. (blogging/9-to-5 job/training at the studio/replying to client emails) until about 7:30 p.m. Luckily it was all things I love to do! But I can tell I need to take a break and completely disconnect this weekend. We’re going camping again, so there’s going to be lots more of this going on:

But on to the topic of my Thinking Out Loud post for this week: Yesterday I had an article I wrote a few months ago published on Elephant Journal, which was super awesome and exciting because I love the stories published on Elephant Journal!

Squamish 50: How I trained for my first ultra

1069845_10151532225501592_916413937_nIn less than two days, I’ll be running through this.

Then I’ll be spending about eight hours runking (running the flat trails and downhills, hiking the uphills… it’s my word of the day, just made it up) up and down this and in this.

Hopefully this will be me at the end. But I’ll most probably end up finishing like this, if I finish at all, that is, considering how many times I’ve eaten dirt (or come close to) on my long trail runs lately; I tend to stop picking up my feet after 5+ hours of running single-track forest trails and stumble over every rock and root in my path.

Naw, I’m pretty excited to race Squamish 50 this weekend, and feel confident I can at least finish. Since this is my first ultra, I don’t have a time goal in mind and have no idea what to expect. My goal is just to finish, relatively unscathed. (more…)
