{Try This Thursday} Kaeng Raeng Daily Green Energy Drink review

smoothie3Today I’m linking up with Jess from Hello to Fit and Ivanna from Petite Heartbeat for Try This Thursday to share my thoughts on a new smoothie mix I had the opportunity to try!

Although you know I believe in eating whole, minimally processed foods, I’m a sucker for convenience and LOVE drinking smoothies. I regularly use vegan protein powders and drink mixes in my fruit and veggie smoothies to up the nutrient intake, especially during marathon and ultra  training. I have a few go-to powders I love the taste of (Vega, Everlast and Sunwarrior), but am always up for trying something new and sharing my thoughts about it here on the blog.

Kaeng Raeng Daily Green Energy drink mix

Kaeng Raeng is a wellness company based in the U.S. that makes natural supplements and cosmetics. Although they lost points with me by selling “natural detox cleanses” on their site, I was genuinely interested in their line of cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics and their green energy drink mix, which is essentially just a TON of freeze-dried fruit and vegetables plus probiotics. If you weren’t hitting your recommended daily intake of fruit and veggies, one of these blended up in a smoothie or mixed with water would be better than nothing. Just take a look at the nutritional info:

smoothie1Verdict: I blended up half of my sample into a small smoothie and the other half shaken up in the nifty Blender Bottle they sent me with just water. The smoothie was delicious (1 cup coconut water, 1/2 cup frozen berries, Daily Green Energy drink mix, ice and a touch of vanilla), but the drink mix blended with just water had a strong aftertaste I wasn’t a fan of. I find most green drink mixes have a weird aftertaste unless blended up in a smoothie, so I was disappointed that this mix was no different. The first few sips tasted like blueberries, but I couldn’t get over the other mingling flavours in the aftertaste.

That said, if you’re looking for a convenient way to get your greens in and have $35 to spare for a pack of seven drink mixes, I’d recommend giving it a try.

Disclaimer: Wellness company Kaeng Raeng sent me a sample of their Daily Green Energy drink mix and a nifty Blender Bottle in return for an honest review.
